Labour’s NEC approves Burnham’s byelection pathway back to parliament

Andy Burnham's request to stand in the Makerfield byelection has been approved by Labour's NEC, paving his way back to parliament. If elected, a mayoral byelection will be needed to replace him as Greater Manchester mayor. Burnham still has two years left in his term as mayor.
