China to bust Yangtze River chokepoint with US$11 billion ‘water staircase’ project
China has begun construction on an US$11.4 billion project to build mega ship locks near the Three Gorges Dam to facilitate larger vessel passage and improve logistics along the Yangtze River. The project involves creating a series of 'water staircases' to address a chokepoint in the river.
