MND Local: Should Cabo San Lucas become an autonomous municipality?

Cabo San Lucas, a major economic driver for Baja California Sur through tourism, faces political challenges due to its status as a delegation within the Los Cabos municipality. Despite generating significant revenue and experiencing rapid population growth, it receives inadequate public services and infrastructure support from the municipal government based in San José del Cabo. A proposed initiative seeks to grant Cabo San Lucas autonomy as the state’s sixth municipality to address these disparities.
