City that inspired Mamdani’s free NYC bus plan is bringing back fares — after it ran out of money
Kansas City, Missouri, which inspired Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s proposal for free New York City bus service, is reinstating fares after its $50 million free bus experiment funded by federal COVID relief funds ended. The city was the first in the US to implement free buses in 2020.
