Technical report reveals critical structural flaws that led to 2021 Surfside condo collapse
A technical report by the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s National Construction Safety Team found that structural failures in garage columns and pool deck connections at Champlain Towers South in Surfside led to a partial collapse in June 2021, resulting in 98 fatalities. The failures caused cracks and redistributed weight to insufficient slab-column connections, triggering the disaster.
