Top army general who was last US soldier to leave Afghanistan abruptly steps down
Gen Christopher Donahue, commander of US Army Europe and Africa and NATO's Allied Land Command, is stepping down after 18 months in the role. He was the last American soldier to leave Afghanistan in 2021. His departure is part of a trend under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's initiative to reduce top military leadership.
