Rural emergency care is struggling to keep up with ICE detention demand
Rural emergency services in Pennsylvania, such as Moshannon Valley EMS, are overwhelmed by increased demand from ICE detention centers. The Moshannon Valley Processing Center, operated by Geo Group, holds nearly 1,700 detainees, leading to 43 emergency calls since October without payment from ICE. Similar strains on rural emergency care are reported in Louisiana, Georgia, Indiana, and Texas.
