Family of man shot in back by Colorado Springs officer files lawsuit against department

The family of Alex Martinez-Sarmiento, a 26-year-old shot and killed by a Colorado Springs police officer in July, filed a lawsuit against the department. The officer shot Martinez-Sarmiento in the back after he ran away while hands raised, despite no rifle being found; the district attorney ruled the shooting justified based on video showing him reaching for his waistband.
