Food banks, city officials push to prevent SNAP benefit losses

City officials and food banks in New York are working to prevent tens of thousands of individuals from losing SNAP benefits due to new Trump administration work requirements. The rules, part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, mandate 80 monthly work or training hours for Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs), with a grace period ending June 1. Despite efforts to secure exemptions or compliance, 42,500 individuals remain at risk of benefit loss.
