Miami immigration advocates urge city to end ICE partnership
Miami immigration advocates, students, and community members urged city commissioners to terminate the city’s 287(g) agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), arguing it fosters fear among immigrants and undermines police-community trust. The agreement, approved in June 2025, allows trained Miami police officers to perform immigration enforcement duties, a policy opponents say discourages crime reporting and cooperation. The issue was placed on Thursday’s city commission agenda by Commissioner Christine King for discussion.
