Judge orders HB to adopt 'ranked-choice' voting to settle dispute over Latino votes
A judge ordered Huntington Beach to adopt ranked-choice voting for the November 2026 general election to address claims of diluted Latino voting power in at-large elections. The ruling followed a lawsuit by the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project and resident Victor Valladares, who argued that the city’s electoral system disadvantaged Latino voters in the Oak View neighborhood.
