Johnson C. Smith University is in phase two of accreditation probation under the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, requiring stronger financial controls and emergency reserves. President Valerie Kinloch has implemented 19 new policies to improve compliance, but the university fell $8 million short of its $10 million fundraising goal.
