Environmental defenders remain among world’s most targeted activists
Environmental and Indigenous rights defenders were among the most targeted activists in 2025, with 358 human rights defenders killed, including 84 targeted for environmental work. The report by Front Line Defenders highlighted violence and threats in 119 countries, including nonlethal attacks and underreported cases due to restricted civic spaces.
