Boffins build a better pixel capable of emitting and receiving light

Researchers at ETH Zurich have developed a multifunctional pixel capable of both emitting and measuring light, combining functions traditionally handled by separate display and camera pixels. The innovation uses Fourier analysis to control and detect optical properties like amplitude, phase, and polarization, enabling potential applications in two-way screens, holograms, and quantum information processing.
