Americans' pride in US history and democracy drops, and fewer are proud to be American, polls find
Pride in U.S. history and democracy has declined among Americans over the past decade, with Gallup reporting 53% of U.S. adults as extremely or very proud to be American, the lowest since 2001. AP-NORC polling shows drops in pride for the military, political influence, and history, driven largely by Democrats. The decline coincides with events including the Trump presidency, pandemic, inflation, and recent U.S.-Iran tensions.
