Venezuelan merchant Grian Serrano survived the 1999 La Guaira mudslides and recent earthquakes that killed over 1,700 people. He and his family were buried under rubble during the earthquakes but were rescued. La Guaira, a coastal state, suffered significant damage from both disasters.
