China faces major emissions dilemma in steel sector
China's steel sector faces a critical decision on blast furnace relining by 2030, with three-quarters of capacity needing renewal. Experts warn that using traditional methods could lock in 34 gigatons of emissions, while adopting new technologies might reduce this by two-thirds. Zhang Yan, advisor to the China Iron & Steel Research Institute, highlighted the dilemma.
