Antyodaya Anna Yojana

Tamil Nadu consistently drew lower quantities of rice than its allocated share under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana in five of the last seven years, with the closest drawal (98% of 6.99 lakh tonnes) occurring during the 2020-21 pandemic year. Off-take rates ranged from 73% to 79% in other years between 2019-20 and 2024-25.

Chief Minister Joseph Vijay wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi opposing a proposed amendment to the Food Security Act. He urged retaining the existing entitlement of 35 kg of foodgrains per month for households under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, regardless of family size.
