Japan is moving toward a potential referendum on its pacifist constitution after parliamentary forces secured the necessary supermajority. Article 9 of the 1947 constitution, which prohibits maintaining a military with 'war potential', has remained unchanged for nearly eight decades but now faces renewed conservative efforts to revise it.
