Democratic candidate Amy Acton is breaking with her fellow Democrats to support Issue 3, an amendment proposed by Republican lawmakers that aims to enshrine Ohio’s voter photo ID requirement in the state constitution. While Acton stated she supports the issue because it does not change what is currently law, her position puts Democrats in a bind as top party figures are supporting it. The current law already requires voters to show specific forms of photo ID when casting a ballot in person.
