Border Wall Construction

A federal judge refused to block the Trump administration from building a 62-mile border wall along part of the Tohono O’odham Nation’s reservation. Judge Richard Leon ruled that the tribe had not established that the construction would change boundaries without congressional authority or illegally trespass. Despite strong tribal objections regarding sacred sites and land devastation, the judge determined that government interests in securing the border outweigh potential harms.

The Trump administration ordered border wall contractors in drought-stricken New Mexico to stop drilling wells after ranchers raised concerns about water shortages threatening livestock. Contractors Caddell Construction Co. and Fisher Industries were instructed to halt new well drilling, though existing wells' status remains unclear.
