- How a ‘Chinese heart’ could get US blood pumping despite biotech decoupling
A fully magnetically levitated heart pump developed in China, known as BrioVAD, is being used in a U.S. clinical trial to treat over 100 patients with advanced heart failure, despite political tensions driving biotech decoupling between the U.S. and China. The device, slightly larger than a table tennis ball, functions as a left ventricular assist device to circulate oxygen-rich blood.
