    Driver dies after SUV crosses center line in York County

    A driver was killed after a 2015 Isuzu SUV crossed the center line on S.C. Highway 5 in York County, colliding with a 2014 Isuzu truck and a 2026 Kenworth semi-truck near Pine Avenue in Catawba. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. Wednesday, and the coroner’s office has not yet released the driver’s identity.

    Newton names new police chief

    Mark Beal will be sworn in as Chief of Police for the Newton Police Department after serving as interim chief since March. He has 30 years of law enforcement experience, including time with the Town of Catawba and Newton Police Department since 1999. His swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for July 1.
