EU Regulation EC261, a key air passenger rights framework, faces potential weakening through proposals to reduce compensation for flight delays and cancellations. The European Parliament opposes cuts that could lower compensation from €250 to €83 for delays over three hours, arguing such changes would erode consumer protections and operational incentives for airlines. Inflation has already reduced the real value of EC261 compensation by 58.6% since 2005.
