Food Lion will open a new store in southeast Charlotte this fall at the Mintworth Shopping Center, replacing the former Harris Teeter. This Salisbury-based grocery chain plans to occupy the location off Idlewild and Margaret Wallace roads, with an opening date scheduled for October 7.

A bomb threat prompted the evacuation of a Food Lion grocery store in Morganton, Burke County, N.C., on June 16 at 6:45 p.m. Authorities conducted a thorough search, found no suspicious items, and allowed businesses to reopen. The source of the threat remains under investigation.

Raymond Jett, 60, drove from North Carolina to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to confront his wife's boyfriend, Edward McGill, 59, in a Food Lion parking lot.
