French officials are investigating a security breach of the government's encrypted messaging platform Tchap, where attackers hijacked an account and accessed public chat rooms. While the government claims private conversations remained secure due to encryption, a cyber criminal alleged access to over 73,000 user accounts and 643,000 messages through social engineering, though these claims remain unverified. The French Digital Affairs Directorate (DINUM) confirmed logs are being analyzed to assess the breach's scope and notify the data protection watchdog CNIL.
