Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla

Tens of thousands of mourners gathered in Tehran for the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was assassinated on February 28, the opening day of a war between Iran and the United States. The event took place at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla.

Three sons of slain Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei prayed beside his coffin at a Tehran funeral, but Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded him as supreme leader, did not attend. State TV showed Mostafa, Meysam, and Masoud Khamenei praying at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla.

Funeral ceremonies for Ali Khamenei continued in Tehran, with senior officials including President Masoud Pezeshkian and parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf attending prayers led by Jafar Sobhani. Khamenei’s coffin was displayed alongside four relatives killed in 28 February strikes by US and Israel, with over 10 million expected to participate in the events.
