- Kent Island restaurant adds 1 million new oysters to Chesapeake Bay
A Kent Island restaurant, Libbey’s Coastal Kitchen and Cocktails, partnered with an oyster habitat restoration initiative to install oyster cuffs and shell bags around old pier pilings in the Chesapeake Bay. The project, led by Niels Lindquist of Sandbar Oyster Company, aims to create new oyster reefs using cement-filled fabric cuffs and larvae-planted shells to improve the bay’s ecosystem.

Andrew DePaola, a Pro Bowl long snapper for the Minnesota Vikings, owns a bagel shop on Kent Island in Maryland. He founded DePaola’s Bagel and Brunch after noticing a lack of good bagels in the area, with his parents managing the business when he is away. The shop is performing well, and a potential second location is under consideration.
