- Gov. Landry tosses proposal to increase tarpon regulation
Gov. Jeff Landry vetoed a bill to designate Atlantic tarpon as a saltwater game fish in Louisiana, despite unanimous legislative support and advocacy by wildlife groups. The bill aimed to enable regulations for conservation, but Landry argued it would create unnecessary restrictions without conservation benefits.
- Louisiana deflates mylar balloon releases with new ban, starting in August
Louisiana has banned intentional outdoor releases of mylar and latex helium balloons, effective August 1, under a new law aimed at reducing environmental harm and wildlife threats. The law includes a $500 fine for first offenses and excludes those under 17 and biodegradable balloons, passing after the governor vetoed a similar bill last year.
