Gaza families buried 112 relatives killed in an Israeli air strike in November 2023, nearly three years after the attack. The remains were recovered from rubble in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City in July 2026, following a 17-day Civil Defence operation using limited equipment.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) warns that thousands of Palestinians buried under rubble in Gaza may never be identified due to decomposition and loss of forensic evidence. Gaza is estimated to have 61.5 million tonnes of debris, 20 times more than all conflict-generated rubble since 2008, with 73,000 reported killed and over 3,000 missing.
