PETA has released new details about an animal cruelty case in Hertford County, North Carolina. Ricky McCoy Cooper Jr. faces 10 counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals after PETA fieldworkers found seven emaciated dogs and the decomposing remains of three dogs on his property.

An 18-year-old Indian tourist died after falling from a horse-drawn carriage in Central Park when the horse bolted. The driver had dismounted to take a photo, leading to the accident; the teen hit his head and later died. The driver was suspended, the horse retired, and PETA called for ending carriages.

Ridglan Farms has agreed to release its remaining beagles, with animal welfare groups securing new homes and medical treatment for the dogs. The facility, which bred beagles for laboratories and faced animal cruelty violations, will transfer the remaining dogs by August, while activists and the farm dispute the legal and ethical implications of the rescue efforts.
