Reza Pahlavi, son of deposed Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, has been compelled to distance himself from the Savak, Iran’s former secret police, after some of his supporters praised the agency as a symbol of their push for a royal restoration. The Savak was historically associated with repression under his father’s rule and contributed to the 1979 revolution that overthrew the Shah.
