- Washington Parish’s first of two Black sheriff deputies killed in drive-by a year after appointment
Oneal Moore, one of the first two Black deputies in the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office who were appointed in 1964, was killed a year after his appointment. During a shift on June 2, 1965, he and his partner David “Creed” Rogers were followed by a black pickup that resulted in Moore being shot and dying upon driving the patrol car into an oak tree.
