- Federal government to turn a Kentucky uranium plant into an AI data center and gas power complex
The U.S. Department of Energy is converting the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Kentucky into a $100 billion AI data center and gas power complex, funded by Brookfield Asset Management. The project includes 2 gigawatts of natural gas generation, 2.6 gigawatts of battery storage, and collaboration with NextEra Energy.

Cleco Power plans to build a 756-megawatt natural gas plant to supply electricity to Applied Digital’s $3.6 billion data center in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. Applied Digital will fund infrastructure upgrades and a 10-year capacity agreement, while Cleco claims the deal will reduce costs for existing customers by over $700 million over 15 years.
