A natural depsipeptide antibiotic binds the E-site of the bacterial ribosome

A natural depsipeptide antibiotic called manikomycin, derived from Streptomyces rimosus, targets the E-site of the bacterial large ribosomal subunit. Improved fractionation strategies enabled the discovery of this antibiotic with a novel mechanism.
