Maine judge grants possession of abandoned 130-year-old shipwreck to the state
A Maine federal judge ruled the state can take possession of the 130-year-old sunken shipwreck Delhi, rejecting a private salvage company's claim. The schooner, which sank in 1893 carrying granite pavers, was deemed abandoned under the Abandoned Shipwreck Act, with the state eligible for ownership. A separate lawsuit challenges the National Park Service's historic designation of the wreck.
