France reports 1,000 additional deaths as extreme heat shatters European records

France reported around 1,000 additional deaths last week due to a record-smashing heat wave, according to its public health agency. The World Health Organization (WHO) head warned that Europe is the fastest-warming continent and needs to enhance citizen protection.
