Detroit nonprofit Mittens for Detroit loses thousands of gloves in flood, seeks donations to recover

A flood caused by a burst pipe destroyed thousands of gloves stored by Detroit nonprofit Mittens for Detroit, jeopardizing its ability to distribute new gloves to the community. Executive director Wendy Shephard, who runs the organization with volunteer support, launched a fundraising campaign to replace the lost inventory after a $1,000 donation. Community members, including Hamtramck teacher Chris Wilinski, have volunteered to help recover and sort undamaged gloves.
