Interstate 85 South

Interstate 85 South in Gastonia was shut down after a box truck rollover spilled its load onto both sides of the highway. No injuries were reported, and traffic is being diverted onto Highway 321.

Alex Rodriguez, a 33-year-old Charlotte resident, died in a multi-vehicle crash on I-85 South near Sugar Creek Road involving a Mercedes, Audi, Hyundai, and motorcycle. The collision occurred at approximately 7:35 p.m., with preliminary investigations indicating the Mercedes and Audi were traveling at high speed before impact. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

One person was seriously injured in a crash on I-85 South and Sugar Creek Road in Charlotte, causing all southbound lanes to close. A car was overturned and resting on another vehicle at the scene, as reported by MEDIC and Channel 9's Tina Terry.
