Landmark civil rights case activist Rev. Dr. Simon Bouie dies
Rev. Dr. Simon Bouie, a civil rights activist whose challenge to segregation led to a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision, has died. He was arrested in 1960 for sitting at an all-white lunch counter in Columbia, South Carolina, and his conviction was overturned by the court, which ruled that South Carolina violated constitutional due process protections. Bouie was 86 years old.
